532 Hadith

Islam attaches great importance to good manners and moral virtues. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I was sent to perfect noble character."

Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When we went to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) one would sit wherever there was room.

#3260Authentic hadith· Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I pledge allegiance to you to immigrate and fight for Allah's cause seeking Allah's reward." He said: "Is either of your parents alive?" He replied: "Yes, both of them." The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Do you seek reward from Allah?" He replied: 'Yes.' The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then return to your parents and accompany them in a best way" [Al-Bukhāri and Muslim]. This is the wording in Sahīh Muslim. In another narration: "A man came to the Prophet seeking his permission to fight in Allah's cause, so the Prophet asked him: 'Are your parents alive?' He said: 'Yes.' The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Then strive in serving them.'"

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Paradise and Hell debated. Hell said: 'The tyrants and the arrogant are in me.' Paradise said: 'The weak and the poor are in me.' So Allah judged between them and said to Paradise: 'You are My Mercy. I show mercy through you to whom I will.' And He said to Hell: 'You are My Punishment, I punish through you whom I will. And I guarantee to fill both of you completely.'"

Thawbān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best dinar a man spends is a dinar that he spends on his dependents, and a dinar that a man spends on his mount in the cause of Allah, and a dinar that he spends on his companions in the cause of Allah." Abu Qilābah said: He began with the dependents. Then Abu Qilābah said: No man is greater in reward than a man who spends on young dependents, by virtue of whom Allah makes them chaste, or brings them benefit and enriches them.

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best sitting places are the widest."

#3285Authentic hadith· Narrated by Bukhari

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If any of you sees a vision he likes, it is from Allah. So, let him praise Allah for it, and let him recount it. If he sees something else that he dislikes, it is from the devil. So, let him seek refuge from its evil and mention it to no one, for it will not harm him."

Sohaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How astonishing the believer's affair is! Indeed, all of his affairs are good, and this is for none but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, which is good for him; and if something bad happens to him, he shows patience, which is good for him."

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “You indulge in such actions that are less significant in your eyes than a hair, while we used to consider them destructive sins during the Prophet’s lifetime.”

Usayd ibn Hudayr and Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: A man from the Ansār said: "O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me as you appointed so-and-so?" He replied: "You will experience favoritism after me, so have patience until you meet me at the Basin."

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sneezed, he would put his hand—or his garment—over his mouth and lower—or drop—his voice therewith.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Avoid the seven destructive sins” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, what are they?” He said: “Associating partners with Allah; magic (sorcery); killing a person whose killing Allah has prohibited except by legal right; consuming usury; devouring the property of an orphan; fleeing from the battlefield; and slandering chaste, innocent, and believing women.”

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''If Allah willed to do good to His slave, He expedites his punishment in the life of this world, and if He willed to do ill to His slave, He withholds the punishment for his sins until He comes with all his sins on the Day of Resurrection."

#3333Good hadith· Narrated by Ibn Majah

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I tell you what I fear more for you than the Antichrist?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Hidden polytheism; when a man gets up to pray and improves his prayer because he sees another man watching him."

Osāmah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that it was said to him: "Why do you not visit ‘Uthmān and talk to him?" He replied: "Do you think that I do not talk to him except that I make you hear? By Allah, I talked to him privately, without beginning something I do not like to be the first to begin; and I do not say to my ruler "You are the best among people" after I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into Hellfire, and his intestines will slip out and he will go around by them like a donkey goes around a millstone. The dwellers of Hellfire will gather around him and say: 'So-and-so, what is the matter with you? Did you not use to command us to do right and forbid us from doing wrong?' He will reply: 'Yes, I used to command what is right, but I would not do it myself, and I used to forbid doing what is wrong, but I fall into it myself''"

#3350Good hadith· Narrated by Abu Daoud

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not turn your houses like graves, and do not take my grave a place for celebration, and invoke (Allah's) blessings upon me, for your invoking of Allah's blessings upon me will reach me wherever you may be."

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever provides for two girls until they reach puberty, he will come on the Day of Judgment, me and him," and he joined his fingers.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will not enter Paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I guide you to something which, if you do, you will love one another? Spread the greeting of peace among yourselves."

#3362Authentic hadith· Narrated by Ahmad - Maalik

Abu Idrīs al-Khawlāni (may Allah have mercy upon him) reported: I once entered the Damascus mosque. I saw a young man who had shining teeth, and people were with him. When they differed over anything, they would refer it to him and would adopt his opinion. I asked who he was and I was told that he was Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). On the next day, I went early to the mosque, but found that he had arrived earlier than me and was praying. I waited until he completed his prayer, and then went to him from the front, greeted him and said: "By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He asked: "By Allah?" I replied: "Yes, by Allah." He then asked me again: "By Allah?" I replied: "Yes, by Allah." Then he took hold of the waist edge of my cloak, drew me close to himself and said: "Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'Allah, the Almighty, said: ‘My love is certainly due to those who love one another for My sake, sit with one another for My sake, visit one another for My sake, cooperate and give one another for My sake.''"

#3367Authentic hadith· Narrated by Bukhari

Mus‘ab ibn Sa‘d reported: Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with him) saw that he had superiority over those beneath him. So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you granted victory and provided with sustenance except through your weak ones?"

#3370Authentic hadith· Narrated by Muslim

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard a bang. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what it is?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "This is a stone that was thrown into Hellfire seventy years ago and it was falling into Hellfire until it reached its bottom."

The Prophet (peace be upon him) placed good behavior at the center. He said that the most complete believers in faith are those with the best character. These hadiths cover kindness, patience, generosity, honesty, respect for parents, and many other essential virtues.
