Surah Al-Isra 17:13 — translation and meaning

ۖ وَكُلَّ إِنسَانٍ أَلْزَمْنَاهُ طَائِرَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كِتَابًا يَلْقَاهُ مَنشُورًا

Word by Word

وَكُلَّ

And (for) every
إِنسَانٍ
insanin
man
أَلْزَمْنَاهُ
alzamnahu
We have fastened to him
طَائِرَهُ
tairahu
his fate
فِي
fi
in
عُنُقِهِ
unuqihi
his neck
وَنُخْرِجُ
wanukh'riju
and We will bring forth
لَهُ
lahu
for him
يَوْمَ
yawma
(on the) Day
الْقِيَامَةِ
al-qiyamati
(of) the Resurrection
كِتَابًا
kitaban
a record
يَلْقَاهُ
yalqahu
which he will find
مَنشُورًا
manshuran
wide open

Transliteration

Wa kulla insaanin alzamnaahu taaa'irahoo fe 'unuqihee wa nukhriji lahoo Yawmal Qiyaamati kitaabany yalqaahu manshooraa

Translation

And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck, and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

For every person I have made the actions that proceed from him attached to him, like how a necklace is attached to the neck. They will not leave him until he is taken to account for them. On the Day of Judgement, I will bring out for him a book that contains every good or bad deed that he did, which he will find spread open before him.
