مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِ سَامِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ

Transliteration

Mustakbireena bihee saamiran tahjuroon

Translation

In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

You did that displaying arrogance over the people, because you thought you were the people of the sanctuary while you were not; the true people of the sanctuary are the Mindful. You also talked ill of it by night and would not deem it sacred.
