Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) governs Muslim life in worship and social relations. These hadiths form the evidence for Islamic legal rulings.
Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of silver for silver and gold for gold except for equal quantities, and commanded us to buy silver with gold as we desire, and to buy gold with silver as we desire. A man, then, asked him: "Is it (payment) to be made on the spot?" He replied: "That is what I heard (from the Messenger of Allah)."
‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited the fixed term marriage on the Day of Khaybar and eating the flesh of domestic donkeys.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on raising his head from bowing in the final Rak‘ah of the Fajr prayer, say: "O Allah, curse so-and-so and so-and-so", after saying: "Allah hears those who praise Him, our Lord, all praise belongs to You." So, Allah revealed: {Not for you (O Muhammad) is the decision.} [Sūrat āl-‘Imrān: 128] According to another narration of the Hadīth: "He was invoking against Safwān ibn Umayyah, Suhayl ibn ‘Amr, and Al-Hārith ibn Hishām, so the following verse was revealed: {Not for you (O Muhammad) is the decision.} [Sūrat āl-‘Imrān: 128]
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever we stopped somewhere (during a journey) for rest, we would not offer (voluntary) prayer until we have unloaded the luggage from the mounts' backs.
Ibrahīm said: ''They used to beat us over testimony and promises when we were still children.''
Qays ibn Abi Hāzim reported: We visited Khabbāb ibn al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill and he had been cauterized in seven places. He said to us: "Our companions who died (during the lifetime of the Prophet) left (this world) without having their rewards reduced due to enjoying the pleasures of this life, but we have (so much) wealth that we find no way to spend it except on the ground. Had the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) not forbidden us to wish for death, I would have wished for it." When we visited him for a second time, he was building himself a wall, and he said: "A Muslim is rewarded (in the Hereafter) for whatever he spends, except for something he has spent on building."
Abu ‘Atiyyah reported: I and Masrūq went to ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Masrūq said to her: "There are two of the Companions of Muhammad (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who never stop to pursue the good; but one of them hastens to perform the Maghrib prayer and break the fast, while the other delays the Maghrib prayer and breaking the fast." She said: "Who hastens to perform the Maghrib prayer and break the fast?" He said: '‘Abdullāh', meaning: Ibn Mas‘ūd. She said: "This is what the Messenger of Allah used to do."

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You fast continuously and stand in prayer at night?" I said: Yes. He said: "If you do that, your eyes will become weak, and your soul will become weary. No fasting counts for the one who fasts continuously. Fasting three days is like fasting the entire year". I said: Indeed, I am capable of more than that. He said: "Then fast the fast of Dāwūd (David) (peace be upon him); he used to fast one day and break his fast the next day, and he would not flee when facing the enemy."
‘Uthmān ibn Abi al-‘Ās ath-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he complained to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about some pain that he had been feeling in his body since embracing Islam. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Put your hand on the part of your body where you feel the pain and say: 'Bismillāh (In the name of Allah)' three times; then say seven times: 'A‘ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uhādhir (I seek refuge with Allah and His power from the evil that I find and fear).'"
Fātimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that Abu ‘Amr ibn Hafs divorced her irrevocably, while he was not present (and in another narration: “divorced her thrice”). He sent some barley to her with his representative and she was displeased with it. So he said: “By Allah, you are not entitled to receive anything from me.” She came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned that to him. He said: “No financial maintenance is due to you upon him. (In another narration: 'or accommodation’)” Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to observe her ‘Iddah (post-divorce waiting period) in the house of Umm Sharīk; then he said: “This is a woman whom my Companions frequently visit, so observe your ‘Iddah at the house of Ibn Umm Maktūm. He is a blind man and you can disrobe in his house. Then when you complete your ‘Iddah, inform me.” She said: “When I completed my ‘Iddah, I mentioned to him that both Mu‘āwiyah ibn Abu Sufyān and Abu Jahm proposed to me. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘As for Abu Jahm, he never takes his stick off his shoulder, and as for Mu‘āwiyah, he is destitute and penniless. Marry Usāmah ibn Zayd,’” whom she disliked. Then he said: “Marry Usāmah ibn Zayd.” Fātimah said: “So I married him and Allah placed a lot of good in him, and I was pleased with him.”

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) made an agreement with the people of Khaybar to work and cultivate in return for half of the fruits or crops produced.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: During the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be up on him), a man accused his wife of adultery and disclaimed her child. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them both to swear the oath of condemnation against each other, as Allah, the Almighty, instructed, and they did. Then he decided that the child should be with the woman and separated them (the man and woman).
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: So-and-so came and asked: "O Messenger of Allah, if one of us finds his wife committing adultery: what should he do? If he were to speak, his statement would be a horrible matter, and if he were to remain silent, his silence about the matter would be horrible too." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. After some time, the man came back to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have become afflicted by the very thing I asked you about." Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed these verses of Sūrat An-Nūr (which begins with): {And those who accuse their wives} [Sūrat- An-Nūr: 6]. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) recited them to him. Then he admonished him, exhorted him, and informed him that the torment of this world is less painful than the torment of the Hereafter. The man said: "No, by the One Who sent you with the Truth, I did not tell a lie against her." The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then called the wife and admonished her, exhorted her, and informed her that the torment of this world is less painful than the torment of the Hereafter. She said: "No, by the One Who sent you with the Truth, he is a liar." The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) started with the man, who testified in the name of Allah four times that he was truthful, and the fifth time, he said: "Let Allah's curse fall upon me if I am a liar." Then the woman was summoned, and she testified four times by the name of Allah that her husband was among the liars, and the fifth time, she said: "Let the anger of Allah fall upon me if he is truthful." Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) separated them and said: "Indeed, Allah knows that one of you is a liar, so would any of you repent?" He said this statement thrice. According to another wording of the Hadīth, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have no right over her." The man said: "O Messenger of Allah, what about my money?" The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have no right to get back your money. If you have told the truth about her, then your money was in return for the sexual intercourse which you lawfully had with her, and if you have told a lie about her, then you are less rightful to get your money back."
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Once the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered upon me while a man was in my house. He said: "O ‘Ā'ishah, who is this (man)?" I replied: "He is my brother from breastfeeding." He said: "O ‘Ā'ishah, be careful who you (women) count as your brothers from breastfeeding, for the breastfeeding (that makes marriage prohibited) is only that which satisfies hunger (takes place in the suckling period, the first two years of one's life)."
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Imām is appointed so that he should be followed; so, do not act differently from him. When he makes Takbīr all of you should say it after him; bow when he bows; say 'O our Lord, all praise be to You' when he says: Allah hears the one who praises Him; prostrate when he prostates; and all of you should pray sitting when he prays sitting."
Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my daughter’s husband died, and she complains about her eye. Can we apply Kohl thereto?" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said 'No' twice or thrice. Then he said: "It is only four months and ten days. In the pre-Islamic era, you women would throw away the dung after a year had passed." Zaynab said: “When a woman’s husband died, she would go into a small hut, wear her worst clothes and would not touch any kind of perfume until a whole year would pass. Then an animal – a donkey, bird, or sheep – would be brought to her and she would rub her skin with it. It was seldom that she would rub her skin with any animal except that it died! Then she would come out and be given a piece of dung, which she would throw away. Then, she would return to using perfume or anything else she liked.”
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: ‘Umar acquired a piece of land in Khaybar, so he came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to know what he should do with it. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have acquired a piece of land in Khaybar, and I have never acquired a property more precious to me than that. What do you command me to do with it?" He said: "If you wish you can keep its origin as an endowment, and give its yield in charity." So, ‘Umar gave the land in charity (i.e. as an endowment on the condition that the land would neither be sold nor given as a gift, nor bequeathed). He gave its yield as charity to the poor, the relatives, for emancipation of slaves, in Allah's cause, and for the travelers. It was permissible for its administrator to eat from it in a reasonable just manner and feed his friends without seeking to be wealthy by its means. In another wording: "...without storing the property with the purpose of becoming rich.”
