Habīb ibn Maslamah al-Fihri reported: I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) give a quarter (of the war spoils) as extra booty on the way out to a battle and a third on the way back.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: During our military expeditions, we used to get honey and grapes (as spoils) and eat them without bringing them (to the Prophet or the one in charge of distributing the spoils).

It was reported about ‘Abdullāh ibn Abi Awfa that he was asked (by Muhammad ibn Abi Mujāhid): "Were you people setting aside one-fifth of the spoils of war – meaning the food – during the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "We got some food on the Day of Khaybar. A man would come and take the amount he needed from it then go away."

Ruwayfi‘ ibn Thābit (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not ride a mount belonging to the spoils of Muslims and then returns it when it becomes skinny out of exhaustion. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not wear a garment belonging to the spoils of the Muslims and then returns it when it is worn out."

‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb reported from his father that his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Muslims are like one hand against all those who are outside the community. Their blood and wealth are equal (in terms of inviolability). The protection granted by the lowest of them in status is to be honored by all Muslims, and Muslims return (the spoils of war) to the farthest of them.'"

‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Ghanm reported: We were stationed at the frontiers of the city of Qinnasrīn with Shurahbīl ibn As-Simt. When he conquered it, he seized sheep and cows there. He distributed some of them among us, and deposited the rest of them in the spoils of war. I met Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal and mentioned that to him. Mu‘ādh said: "We went to the battle of Khaybar along with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and got spoils there. The Messenger of Allah divided them among us and placed the rest of them with the booty."

Bajālah reported: I was the clerk of Jaz’ ibn Mu‘āwiyah, Al-Ahnaf’s paternal uncle. We received a letter from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb one year before his death. He said: "Cancel every marriage between unmarriageable relatives from among the Magians (Zoroastrians)." ‘Umar did not use to take the Jizyah from the Magians till ‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf testified that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) had taken Jizyah from the Magians of Hajar.

Anas ibn Mālik and ‘Uthmān ibn Abu Sulaymān (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent Khālid ibn al-Walīd to Ukaydir of Dūmah. He (Ukaydir) was seized and brought to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who spared his life and made a peace treaty with him on condition that they should pay Jizyah.

Mu‘ādh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Prophet (ﷺ) sent him to Yemen, he instructed him to take as Zakah on cattle; one Tabī‘ (a one-year-old male calf) or Tabī‘ah (a one-year-old female calf) for every thirty, and one Musinnah (a two-year-old cow) for every forty. He also commanded that from every adult—meaning one who has reached puberty—a dinar or its equivalent in garments from Ma‘āfir, a type of clothes produced in Yemen, be taken.

Ā'idh ibn ‘Amr al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Islam is to prevail and is not to be prevailed over."

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills a mu‘āhad (a non-Muslim who is granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years."

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would hold horse races and would prefer the stronger horses for the longer distances.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Competitions with prizes are allowed only in camel racing, horse racing, and shooting arrows."

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (eating the flesh of) all carnivorous animals that have fangs and all birds that have talons.

Ibn Abi ‘Ammār reported: I said to Jābir: "Are hyenas a type of game (animal)?" Jābir replied: ‘Yes.’ I asked: "Did the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say that?" He replied: 'Yes.'

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade riding the camel which feeds on dung as well as drinking its milk.

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Umm Hufayd, Ibn ‘Abbās' aunt, sent some dried yogurt, ghee (butter), and a mastigure (sand lizard) to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ate the dried yogurt and the ghee, but left the mastigure, because he disliked it. Ibn ‘Abbās said: “The mastigure was eaten at the table of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and if it had been unlawful to eat, it could not have been eaten at his table.”

Abu Tha‘labah (my Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you shoot your arrow and it disappears from sight and you find it later, you may eat it (the game) unless it smells bad."

#64653Authentic hadith· Narrated by Bukhari

‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Some people said: "O Messenger of Allah, meat was brought to us by some people, and we are not sure whether the name of Allah has been mentioned on it or not (at the time of slaughtering the animals)." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mention the name of Allah upon it and eat it."

Ka‘b ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A woman slaughtered a sheep with a sharp stone. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it and he ordered that it be eaten.
